Squeak or Creak From the Driver's Seat

Symptom

The driver’s seat may squeak when the occupant moves, or creak when the seat is adjusted to its lowest position.

Probable Cause

Noise may be caused by the seat cushion rubbing against the seat frame, or by the seat belt buckle mounting bolt contacting the frame.

Corrective Action

Apply wool felt tape to the seat frame. If creaking is present, bend the seat belt buckle mounting flange outward.

Required Materials

Wool Felt Tape: P/N 06993‑SA5‑000 (one roll repairs approximately four vehicles)

Warranty Claim Information

Operation Number:851003
Flat Rate Time:0.6 hour
Failed Part:81660-S0K-A01
Defect Code:042
Contention Code:B07
Template ID:00-014A
Skill Level:Repair Technician

Out-of-warranty repairs may qualify for goodwill consideration with prior approval.

Repair Procedure

  1. Lower the driver’s seat fully and remove it from the vehicle.
  2. Remove the right side cover and inspect for contact marks between the seat belt buckle mounting bolt and the seat frame.

  • If contact marks are present, bend the mounting flange (step 3).
  • If no marks are present, proceed to step 4.
  1. With the seat supported, clamp the seat rail and bend the buckle mounting flange outward to prevent contact.

  1. Remove the side covers from the seat frame.

  1. Remove the seat cushion from the frame.
  2. Cut two strips of wool felt tape (410 × 15 mm) and apply them to both sides of the frame where rubbing occurs.

  1. Reassemble the seat and reinstall it in the vehicle.

Acura Service Bulletin 00-013

Date: July 25, 2007
Applies To: 1996–2004 Acura 3.5RL – ALL
1997–2005 Acura NSX – ALL

Immobilizer System (Type 1)

This bulletin explains the operation, components, key programming procedures, and troubleshooting for the Type 1 immobilizer system used on these vehicles. It also outlines what to do when keys are lost, when modules are replaced, and how to temporarily start the engine without a programmed key.

Warranty Claim Information

No warranty claim procedures apply; this bulletin is informational.

Immobilizer System Components

The system includes master keys, a valet key, a learning key, an indicator, a receiver, a control unit, and the ECM/PCM. Each component plays a role in verifying the key’s transponder code before allowing the engine to start.

Immobilizer System Indicator

The indicator shows system status when a key is inserted. Programmed keys cause normal illumination; unprogrammed keys cause blinking and prevent engine cranking.

Immobilizer Receiver

The receiver energizes the key’s transponder and sends its ID code to the control unit. It contains no logic and does not require programming when replaced.

Immobilizer Control Unit

The control unit verifies transponder codes, controls the starter cut relay, and communicates with the ECM/PCM to authorize engine start.

ECM/PCM

The ECM/PCM must recognize the immobilizer control unit’s serial code. Both modules must mutually authenticate before fuel and ignition systems are enabled.

Consequences of a Lost Key

The bulletin outlines several scenarios involving lost programmed keys or learning keys. Depending on what is missing, the immobilizer control unit may need replacement, or key‑adding capabilities may be limited.

Adding Programmed Ignition Keys

Keys can be added using either:

  • The Ilco Immobilizer Key Code Duplicator (preferred)
  • The Honda Diagnostic System (HDS), which rewrites the immobilizer control unit

Detailed preparation steps and programming sequences are provided in the bulletin.

Clearing Transponder Codes of Lost Keys

If a client loses one or more programmed keys, the immobilizer control unit should be rewritten using the HDS so that lost keys can no longer start the engine.

Starting the Engine Without a Programmed Ignition Key

A temporary start procedure is available using a cut non‑transponder key and the Immobilizer Brake/Access Code. This allows the vehicle to be driven directly to a dealership for repair.

Replacing the Immobilizer Control Unit

When the control unit is replaced, it must be rewritten with the HDS so it can recognize the vehicle’s programmed keys and communicate with the ECM/PCM.

Replacing the ECM/PCM

After ECM/PCM replacement, the module must be rewritten with the HDS to synchronize immobilizer serial codes. The idle learn procedure must then be performed.

Client Situation and Required Items Chart

The bulletin includes a detailed chart listing common immobilizer‑related situations and the required tools, keys, and procedures for each. This includes lost keys, faulty components, and lock cylinder issues.

Do Not Install Type S Wheels on Premium Models

The 17‑inch Type S wheels can damage the chassis and body of premium models. The Type S uses different suspension components designed for the larger wheels.

Side Airbags

Side airbags are located in the outer bolsters of the front seats. The passenger seat includes an Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS).

The system disables the passenger side airbag when:

  • A small child is seated with their head in the deployment path
  • An object of specific size/weight is on the seat

The SIDE AIRBAG indicator illuminates when disabled.

Remove Tag at TQI

Remove and discard the bar code tag from the passenger seat headrest during TQI.

Remote Activation of Driver’s Seat Memory

Each remote transmitter can activate Memory 1 or Memory 2 seat/mirror positions when unlocking the doors. Turn this feature on during TQI using the instructions printed on the back of each transmitter.

HVAC System

The redesigned HVAC system is quieter and more efficient. It includes a micron air filter that must be replaced during scheduled maintenance.

Premium Fuel Recommendation

This vehicle requires premium unleaded fuel (91+ octane). Lower octane should be used only in emergencies.

Service Connectors

The 2001 3.2CL includes three service connectors:

5‑Speed Automatic Transmission

The Type S transmission includes a heavy‑duty torque converter and increased 2nd‑gear clutch capacity. In sequential mode:

  • Manual 1–2 shifts are not allowed
  • Simultaneous driver/PCM shifts may cause a jump from 1st to 3rd

Fuel Tank Drain Bolt

This vehicle does not have a fuel tank drain bolt.

Headlight Mounts

If a headlight housing is reusable after an accident, an auxiliary bracket can be ordered separately.

Brake System Indicator

The indicator illuminates with ignition ON (II) and turns off after engine start if the parking brake is released.

Navigation System

Uses the same DVD‑based system as the 3.2TL. Refer to S/B 99‑041 for details.

Windshield Wiper Arms

Wipers rest below the hood line. To service blades, stop the wipers mid‑stroke by turning ignition OFF while they are moving.

In‑Dash CD Changer

All models include a 6‑disc in‑dash changer. Customers must follow loading instructions carefully.

Passenger’s Side Mirror

With the selector switch centered, the mirror tilts downward in reverse for improved visibility. Disable by leaving the switch in L or R.

Acura ZDX Owners to Gain Access to Tesla Supercharger Network in June 2025

Acura ZDX owners will gain access to more than 20,000 select Tesla Superchargers across the United States starting in June 2025 with the availability of the first Acura-approved NACS-CCS DC fast-charging adapter. Approved adapters will better ensure a safe and reliable charging experience for Acura customers. The adapter was tested for safety performance and compatibility with the ZDX for use at any NACS DC fast-charging point and is the only DC fast charging adapter approved by Acura.

Customers can purchase the new Acura-approved NACS-CCS DC fast-charging adapter from authorized Acura dealerships in the United States starting in June, with pricing to be confirmed closer to market introduction. Acura ZDX owners will be notified via the Acura EV apps when adapters are available to purchase and, at that time, they will also be able to use the apps to locate authorized Supercharger locations. To better ensure a safe and reliable charging experience, Tesla requires  and, accordingly, Acura strongly recommends, the use of approved adapters when charging at Tesla Supercharger stations. Damage caused by using unapproved adapters may not be covered by vehicles' limited warranties.

Honda and Acura Charging Initiatives
By 2030, Honda and Acura EV owners will have access to approximately 100,000 DC fast-charge points across North America, including the Tesla Supercharger network, all-new IONNA DC fast-charging network and the EVgo and Electrify America charging networks.
