Acura TSX 00-009

Acura Service Bulletin 00-009

Date: December 18, 2000
Applies To: 2001 Acura 3.2CL – ALL

2001 3.2CL: TQI and New Model Information

Supersedes 00‑009, dated April 10, 2000

Most features, equipment, and delivery procedures for the 2001 3.2CL are similar to other Acura models. This bulletin highlights items unique to the 2001 model and important service information.

Warranty Claim Information

None — this information is part of the Total Quality Inspection (TQI).

Fuse Installation

The BACKUP‑ACC fuse (40A) is removed during shipping and placed in the beverage holder. Install the fuse in the under‑hood fuse/relay box before driving the vehicle.

Important: The taillights will not operate until the fuse is installed.

Shift Lock Release

The shift lock release cover is removed for shipping and stored in a small bag with the Owner’s Manual. Install the cover during TQI.

Wheel Balance and Alignment

Type S wheels lack an exterior flange for mounting weights. Use:

  • Genuine Honda alloy weights on the inner flange
  • Tape weights for the outer flange
  • Alignment equipment mounted on the outer lip

Do Not Install Type S Wheels on Premium Models

The 17‑inch Type S wheels can damage the chassis and body of premium models. The Type S uses different suspension components designed for the larger wheels.

Side Airbags

Side airbags are located in the outer bolsters of the front seats. The passenger seat includes an Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS).

The system disables the passenger side airbag when:

  • A small child is seated with their head in the deployment path
  • An object of specific size/weight is on the seat

The SIDE AIRBAG indicator illuminates when disabled.

Remove Tag at TQI

Remove and discard the bar code tag from the passenger seat headrest during TQI.

Remote Activation of Driver’s Seat Memory

Each remote transmitter can activate Memory 1 or Memory 2 seat/mirror positions when unlocking the doors. Turn this feature on during TQI using the instructions printed on the back of each transmitter.

HVAC System

The redesigned HVAC system is quieter and more efficient. It includes a micron air filter that must be replaced during scheduled maintenance.

Premium Fuel Recommendation

This vehicle requires premium unleaded fuel (91+ octane). Lower octane should be used only in emergencies.

Service Connectors

The 2001 3.2CL includes three service connectors:

  • DLC (under cover between seat heater switches)
  • MES (back of driver’s fuse/relay box)
  • Multiplex Control Inspection Socket

PGM Tester Usage

The PGM Tester must have program card version SN010P or later.

Retrieving the Audio Unit Serial Number

To retrieve the serial number without removing the unit:

  1. Turn ignition to ACC (I).
  2. Turn on the audio unit; ensure “CODE” appears.
  3. Turn the unit off.
  4. Press and hold preset buttons 1 and 6, then turn the unit on.

The serial number displays in two 4‑digit groups.

VSA (Vehicle Stability Assist)

Type S models include VSA, which integrates ABS and TCS. The VSA indicator blinks during activation.

5‑Speed Automatic Transmission

The Type S transmission includes a heavy‑duty torque converter and increased 2nd‑gear clutch capacity. In sequential mode:

  • Manual 1–2 shifts are not allowed
  • Simultaneous driver/PCM shifts may cause a jump from 1st to 3rd

Fuel Tank Drain Bolt

This vehicle does not have a fuel tank drain bolt.

Headlight Mounts

If a headlight housing is reusable after an accident, an auxiliary bracket can be ordered separately.

Brake System Indicator

The indicator illuminates with ignition ON (II) and turns off after engine start if the parking brake is released.

Navigation System

Uses the same DVD‑based system as the 3.2TL. Refer to S/B 99‑041 for details.

Windshield Wiper Arms

Wipers rest below the hood line. To service blades, stop the wipers mid‑stroke by turning ignition OFF while they are moving.

In‑Dash CD Changer

All models include a 6‑disc in‑dash changer. Customers must follow loading instructions carefully.

Passenger’s Side Mirror

With the selector switch centered, the mirror tilts downward in reverse for improved visibility. Disable by leaving the switch in L or R.

Road Lamps

Road lamps turn on with the headlights (high or low beam). They are not fog lights or driving lights.

[A Look into the Past] 2003 Acura CL Video

This old informational video explores the Acura CL's performance and styling. It also evaluates how the Acura CL measures up to the BMW 330ci, Volvo C70, and Mercedes CLK320 coupe. This was my first time uploading a video to Google Video (because YouTube rejected it due to length), so please enjoy.

More on Honda R&D Americas (HRA)

Established in Torrance, California in 1975 to conduct local market research and design activities, today Honda R&D Americas (HRA) has the capability of "complete product creation" - developing all-new vehicles starting from market and technology research and design styling through engineering design, fabrication and testing, local parts procurement and mass production preparation. Formally incorporated in 1984, HRA over the past 30 years has steadily expanded the size and scope of its operations to encompass the full range of research, design and development activities for Honda and Acura automobiles as well as Honda motorcycles and Honda power equipment products.

Major U.S. R&D facilities:

Los Angeles Center (Torrance, CA) - established in January 1975, the Los Angeles Center is responsible for market research, concept creation and styling design through three separate studios. The center is also playing a critical role in the development of alternative fuel technologies and operates two of the world's most advanced hydrogen fueling stations.
  • Honda Design Studio (Torrance, CA) - plays a leading role in market research, concept creation and vehicle design of future Honda automobile and motorcycle/ATV models.
  • Acura Design Studio (Torrance, CA) - plays a leading role in market research, concept creation and vehicle design of future Acura models.
  • Advanced design Studio (Pasadena, CA) - focused on the conception and creation of future design concepts.
Ohio Center (Raymond, OH) - established in July 1985, the Ohio Center is responsible for technology research and complete vehicle design and development including body, chassis, interior, electrical, engine application and safety engineering, as well as support of North American and global manufacturing operations and component suppliers. It also operates one of the industry's most sophisticated Automotive Safety Research facilities, established in October, 2003.

North Carolina Center (Swepsonville, NC) - established in August 1993, the North Carolina Center is responsible for design, testing and prototype development and supplier support for Honda power equipment products made in North Carolina.

Transportation Research Center (East Liberty, OH) - purchased by Honda in January 1988, TRC was an existing vehicle research and testing facility originally developed by the state of Ohio. Comprehensive vehicle testing is conducted at the facility's laboratories and test courses including a 7.5-mile banked oval, numerous on-road and off-road dynamic test tracks.

Honda Proving Center of California (Mojave Desert, CA) - established in June 1990, HPCC is responsible for comprehensive vehicle testing including a 7.5-mile oval track and numerous on-road and off-road test courses.

CompTech Closing!

With more than 20 years of involvement in motor sports and the automotive industry, Comptech USA is closing its doors. These specialist are dedicated to developing the fastest, safest, best handling, street legal Hondas and Acuras possible. "At Comptech USA, [they] recognize that properly tuning a vehicle to improve its performance involves more than grabbing a part off the shelf and making it 'fit' your car." Honda/Acura owners had the opportunity to enhance the performance of their cars using the same technology Comptech developed exclusively for International Motor Sports Associations (IMSA), Sports Car Club of America (SCCA), and Indy car racing. Comptech is well known for its superchargers, exhaust, and air intakes. Their superchargers usually adds approximately 50 Horsepower and 30 lb/ft. of Torque at the wheels. The word on the internet (confirmed by vendors) for their closing is due to low number of sells and not enough management.

Old Comptech Realtime racing cars.

This is sad news to many Honda/Acura enthusiasts. Instead of buying a new car, I wanted to supercharge my Acura TSX in the future (5+ years from now). However, I think what will happen in the future is that Comptech tuning parts will be harder to find and the prices will be outrageous. So if you have a Comptech part you're planning to pick up, go to your nearest Comptech vendor now!

WOW! ~$10k for NSX supercharger kit.

[UPDATE] CompTech no longer closing!
