Acura ZDX Owners to Gain Access to Tesla Supercharger Network in June 2025

Acura ZDX owners will gain access to more than 20,000 select Tesla Superchargers across the United States starting in June 2025 with the availability of the first Acura-approved NACS-CCS DC fast-charging adapter. Approved adapters will better ensure a safe and reliable charging experience for Acura customers. The adapter was tested for safety performance and compatibility with the ZDX for use at any NACS DC fast-charging point and is the only DC fast charging adapter approved by Acura.

Customers can purchase the new Acura-approved NACS-CCS DC fast-charging adapter from authorized Acura dealerships in the United States starting in June, with pricing to be confirmed closer to market introduction. Acura ZDX owners will be notified via the Acura EV apps when adapters are available to purchase and, at that time, they will also be able to use the apps to locate authorized Supercharger locations. To better ensure a safe and reliable charging experience, Tesla requires  and, accordingly, Acura strongly recommends, the use of approved adapters when charging at Tesla Supercharger stations. Damage caused by using unapproved adapters may not be covered by vehicles' limited warranties.

Honda and Acura Charging Initiatives
By 2030, Honda and Acura EV owners will have access to approximately 100,000 DC fast-charge points across North America, including the Tesla Supercharger network, all-new IONNA DC fast-charging network and the EVgo and Electrify America charging networks.

All-New and All-Electric AcuraZDX TypeS?

The Acura twitter posted about an all-new and all-electric Acura ZDX Type S.

  • First full-electric model coming to market in 2024 will be a performance SUV called the Acura ZDX
  • Acura Type S performance variants will continue to put the driver experience first in the electrified future with ZDX Type S
  • Acura will continue to be the tip of the spear for electrification and digitalization for American Honda

Acura today announced that its first all-new full-electric SUV coming to market in 2024 will be named the Acura ZDX. Demonstrating its commitment to performance in the electrified era, Acura will also launch with a ZDX Type S variant, as the brand continues to focus on putting the driver experience first. The ZDX will be the first production model to feature many of the styling themes of the new Acura design direction introduced during Monterey Car Week in the form of the Acura Precision EV Concept.

The ZDX is being co-developed with GM utilizing the highly flexible global EV platform powered by Ultium batteries. Acura then will launch additional EV models starting in 2026 based on the company’s own global e:Architecture.

"The Acura ZDX represents the start to what will be an accelerated path toward electrification by the end of the decade and the key role the Acura brand will play in our company’s global goal to achieve carbon neutrality in 2050," said Emile Korkor, assistant vice president of Acura National Sales. “Acura will remain focused on performance in the electrified era and Type S will continue to represent the pinnacle of this direction.”

The ZDX will be Acura’s first zero-emissions SUV and the name pays homage to a previous Acura model of the same name, which was the first vehicle styled from the ground up in the Acura Design Studio which opened in Los Angeles in 2007. The new ZDX is now being styled in the same Acura Design Studio.

In April 2021, Honda global CEO Toshihiro Mibe outlined the company’s vision for global sales of electrified vehicles as part of Honda’s strategy to achieve carbon neutrality for its products and corporate activities by 2050. This vision called for 100-percent of the company’s North American sales to be battery-electric and fuel cell electric vehicles by 2040.

RIP Acura ZDX

Although you still can configure a ZDX on Acura.com, 2013 was the last year for the crossover vehicle. The Acura ZDX Prototype debuted at the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS) in 2009. The model was killed because it wasn't making sales and only lived for about 4 years. Nice try Acura, rest in peace ZDX.

Acura ZDX Recall

American Honda Motor Co., Inc., today announced a recall of approximately 1,850 Acura ZDX vehicles to inspect the dashboard surface material. On affected vehicles, the passenger side airbag of the 2010 ZDX will not deploy properly.
While no incidents have been reported, a manufacturing quality check revealed that some vehicles do not have the necessary laser-cut scoring on the underside of the dashboard surface material. Without proper scoring, the passenger side frontal airbag will not deploy properly. The dashboard inspection is a simple visual check. After dealer inspection, if a ZDX is determined to have a dashboard without the proper scoring, the dashboard will be replaced.
Owners of affected vehicles will be informed by mail later this month. In addition, ZDX owners can go to http://owners.acura.com/recalls or owners may call (800) 382-2238 for more information.

How Good Is Acura's SH-AWD?

Temple Of VTEC was fortunate enough to attend Acura's Winter Test Experience at in Baudette, MN. Acura demonstrated the sophistication of their SH-AWD and Vehicle Stability Assist systems relative to those offered by competitors. The Acuras included the MDX, ZDX, and TL SH-AWD 6MT. The competitors included the 2010 Audi Q7, 2010 BMW 335xi, 2010 BMW X6 3.5 xDrive, 2010 Infiniti FX35, and 2010 Lexus RX350.

The interesting part of the video starts around 1 minute 20 seconds in. All I can say is SH-AWD is pretty impressive!

Acura ZDX Designers

Michelle Christensen - Exterior Designer

Michelle Christensen was only 25 years old and straight out of the Art Center College of Design when she first sketched the ZDX.

"From the very first sketch of the ZDX, I wanted to create an emotional vehicle that challenged conventional thinking of what a sports coupe should be," said Michelle Christensen, ZDX exterior designer. "My goal was to create a strikingly beautiful exterior, and use that attraction to help draw you into the rich interior."

Michael Wiedeman - Interior Designer

Damon Schell - Project Leader

If you want a family car, buy an MDX -- the ZDX is aimed at well-off couples who don't need to take kids with them when they travel, say the designers. "At one stage, we even thought of making it so the rear seats folded up only when you needed them," says Schell.

2011 Acura MSX?

Acura cancelled the next NSX but will bring you the following:

The MSX (?), supposedly Acura's answer to BMW's X6 and Infiniti's FX.

The MSX is assumed to get a 3.7 liter V6 like it's brothers the RL, TL, and MDX, but could surprise everyone with Acura's infamous missing V8.

More realistically, the MSX will get an upgraded six speed automatic.

Rumors are focused around an upscaled interior and price.

The rumored to be low production crossover will mostlikely cost $42k to $50.

Intrigued yet? Acura.com

[Update: 03/30/2009] So now it's official, it's not a 2011 MSX, but a 2010 ZDX.
