Rear Door Sash Trims Wrinkled
Symptom
The rear door sash trim is wrinkled.
Probable Cause
The rear channel is too close to the upper sash.
Corrective Action
Have a competent automotive body repair shop replace the rear door sash trim and shim the rear channel away from the upper sash.

Out of warranty: Repairs after warranty expiration may be eligible for goodwill consideration by the District Parts & Service Manager or Zone Office. Approval must be obtained before work begins.
Repair Procedure
1. Lower the rear window.
2. Remove the inner door handle and door panel.
Refer to page 20‑12 of the 1999–03 3.2TL Service Manual, or search “DOOR PANEL REMOVAL” in the online manual.
3. Remove the plastic cover and rod protector.
4. Remove the rear channel, quarter glass, rear window, and run channel.
Refer to page 20‑16 of the service manual or search “REAR WINDOW REPLACEMENT.”
5. Remove the subseal and weatherstrip.
6. Remove the sash trim panel and door molding.
Body Shop Steps (7–14)
7. Remove the sash trim using a heat gun on low. If difficult, use a Scotch‑Brite Adhesive Removal Disc (under 2,800 RPM).
8. Remove adhesive residue with 3M Adhesive Remover, then clean with mild soap and water.
9. Remove adhesive backing from the front edge of the new sash trim. Align the cut and angle with the door frame.
10. Wet the door frame with mild soap and water (2 drops dish soap per gallon).
11. Peel backing while applying trim. Ensure even overhang and avoid air bubbles.
12. Starting at the front, use a plastic squeegee wrapped in a soft cloth to push water out.
13. From the middle, roll edges around the frame toward both ends.
14. Use a squeegee to smooth down remaining edges.
15. Reinstall the sash trim panel and door molding.
16. Reinstall the subseal and weatherstrip.
17. Glue a 6 mm washer to the top of the rear channel using super glue or equivalent.
18. Reinstall the rear window, quarter glass, rear channel, and run channel.
19. Reinstall the rod protector and plastic cover.
20. Reinstall the door panel and inner door handle.
21. Repeat steps 1–20 for the opposite side if needed.
