2001 3.2CL: TQI and New Model Information
Supersedes 00‑009, dated April 10, 2000
Most features, equipment, and delivery procedures for the 2001 3.2CL are similar to other Acura models. This bulletin highlights items unique to the 2001 model and important service information.
Warranty Claim Information
None — this information is part of the Total Quality Inspection (TQI).
Fuse Installation
The BACKUP‑ACC fuse (40A) is removed during shipping and placed in the beverage holder. Install the fuse in the under‑hood fuse/relay box before driving the vehicle.
Important: The taillights will not operate until the fuse is installed.
Shift Lock Release
The shift lock release cover is removed for shipping and stored in a small bag with the Owner’s Manual. Install the cover during TQI.
Wheel Balance and Alignment
Type S wheels lack an exterior flange for mounting weights. Use:
- Genuine Honda alloy weights on the inner flange
- Tape weights for the outer flange
- Alignment equipment mounted on the outer lip
Do Not Install Type S Wheels on Premium Models
The 17‑inch Type S wheels can damage the chassis and body of premium models. The Type S uses different suspension components designed for the larger wheels.
Side Airbags
Side airbags are located in the outer bolsters of the front seats. The passenger seat includes an Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS).
The system disables the passenger side airbag when:
- A small child is seated with their head in the deployment path
- An object of specific size/weight is on the seat
The SIDE AIRBAG indicator illuminates when disabled.
Remove Tag at TQI
Remove and discard the bar code tag from the passenger seat headrest during TQI.
Remote Activation of Driver’s Seat Memory
Each remote transmitter can activate Memory 1 or Memory 2 seat/mirror positions when unlocking the doors. Turn this feature on during TQI using the instructions printed on the back of each transmitter.
HVAC System
The redesigned HVAC system is quieter and more efficient. It includes a micron air filter that must be replaced during scheduled maintenance.
Premium Fuel Recommendation
This vehicle requires premium unleaded fuel (91+ octane). Lower octane should be used only in emergencies.
Service Connectors
The 2001 3.2CL includes three service connectors:
- DLC (under cover between seat heater switches)
- MES (back of driver’s fuse/relay box)
- Multiplex Control Inspection Socket
PGM Tester Usage
The PGM Tester must have program card version SN010P or later.
Retrieving the Audio Unit Serial Number
To retrieve the serial number without removing the unit:
- Turn ignition to ACC (I).
- Turn on the audio unit; ensure “CODE” appears.
- Turn the unit off.
- Press and hold preset buttons 1 and 6, then turn the unit on.
The serial number displays in two 4‑digit groups.
VSA (Vehicle Stability Assist)
Type S models include VSA, which integrates ABS and TCS. The VSA indicator blinks during activation.
5‑Speed Automatic Transmission
The Type S transmission includes a heavy‑duty torque converter and increased 2nd‑gear clutch capacity. In sequential mode:
- Manual 1–2 shifts are not allowed
- Simultaneous driver/PCM shifts may cause a jump from 1st to 3rd
Fuel Tank Drain Bolt
This vehicle does not have a fuel tank drain bolt.
Headlight Mounts
If a headlight housing is reusable after an accident, an auxiliary bracket can be ordered separately.
Brake System Indicator
The indicator illuminates with ignition ON (II) and turns off after engine start if the parking brake is released.
Navigation System
Uses the same DVD‑based system as the 3.2TL. Refer to S/B 99‑041 for details.
Windshield Wiper Arms
Wipers rest below the hood line. To service blades, stop the wipers mid‑stroke by turning ignition OFF while they are moving.
In‑Dash CD Changer
All models include a 6‑disc in‑dash changer. Customers must follow loading instructions carefully.
Passenger’s Side Mirror
With the selector switch centered, the mirror tilts downward in reverse for improved visibility. Disable by leaving the switch in L or R.
Road Lamps
Road lamps turn on with the headlights (high or low beam). They are not fog lights or driving lights.
