2010 Acura TSX 3.5L V6

For 2010, Acura expands the performance and appeal of the popular TSX sports sedan by adding a V-6 powered TSX to its line-up. Targeted at a performance oriented luxury buyer, the 2010 TSX brings more power by offering a new 3.5L V-6 model in the popular sport sedan line-up.
"With strong V-6 power, the 2010 TSX can go toe-to-toe with the top sports sedans in its class," said Jeff Conrad, vice president of Acura sales. "Matched with new 18-inch wheels and revised suspension, the TSX V-6 is proof positive that a smart vehicle choice doesn't have to be a boring vehicle choice."
Designed as a desirable choice for luxury sedan buyers, the second generation TSX is larger, more agile, more performance minded and even "more Acura" than ever before. The latest TSX has evolved to offer more comfort, convenience and safety. It does so with expanded luxury and electronic features, a wider stance for more agile performance and advanced safety systems.
Even though the all-new for 2009 TSX received high praise from top automotive journalists, TSX engineers developed an entirely new V-6 powered model for 2010. Delivering a potent 280 horsepower channeled through a specially-geared Sequential SportShift automatic transmission, the TSX V-6 generates substantially improved performance for drivers who prefer the more interesting route over the quickest route.
While the TSX with 2.4L I-4 engine provides a spirited driving experience, pushing the performance envelope is an available V-6 package which further defines the TSX's sporty driving character that has become an Acura trademark. In addition to added power, the V-6 model also receives exclusive suspension tuning, larger diameter wheels and tires along with brake system upgrades.

Powertrain

For 2010 the TSX is available with two distinct powertrain choices: a high-revving 2.4L DOHC I-4 with iVTEC and a new 3.5L V-6 with strong mid-range torque. The available SOHC V-6 develops 280 horsepower and 254 lb-ft of torque thanks to a high 11.2:1 compression ratio, VTEC® valvetrain control and a dual-stage induction system contained within a lightweight magnesium intake manifold. The V-6 engine yields a linear torque curve with emphasis on the rpm range most commonly used during day-to-day driving. The 3.5L V-6 meets California's CARB LEV II ULEV emissions certification and delivers an EPA estimated* city/highway fuel economy of 18/27 mpg.
The 3.5L V-6 engine teams with a sophisticated Sequential SportShift 5-speed automatic transmission to maximize performance and fuel economy. The transmission permits fully automatic operation with intelligent features such as Grade Logic Control and Shift Hold Control, which make driving the TSX on hilly or winding roads more enjoyable. If the driver desires, the Sequential SportShift transmission can also be operated manually via steering-wheel mounted paddle shifters.
Also offered is a dynamic DOHC inline 4-cylinder engine. Producing 201 horsepower, the 2.4-liter engine produces its power across a wide operating range with an exciting high rpm charge thanks to its iVTEC valvetrain system. The 2.4L I-4 is very responsive off the line thanks to 172 lb-ft of torque (6MT).
The performance and flexibility of the 2.4L I-4 is credited to a high compression ratio, "intelligent" iVTEC® combined with Variable Timing Control™ (VTC™), and excellent intake and exhaust gas flow. The 2.4L I-4 powertrain is available with a choice of two transmissions - a standard 6-speed close-ratio manual transmission or a Sequential SportShift 5-speed automatic.

Body and Chassis
All 2010 TSX models feature a state-of-the-art double wishbone front and multilink rear suspension system to provide excellent ride, handling and control. The new V-6 model's independent front suspension receives firmer springs and revised calibration for the dual-mode suspension dampers.
The new suspension generates a level of sporty handling that is synonymous with the mission of the new V-6 model. *For 2010, all TSX models benefit from revised EPS programming to deliver crisper steering response and improved "on center" feel.
The 2010 TSX comes standard with 17x7.5-inch 5-spoke aluminum wheels and Michelin Pilot HX MXM4 P225/50R17 all-season tires developed specifically for the vehicle. The TSX V-6 model is upgraded to 18x8-inch aluminum wheels with a split 5-spoke design that are fit with performance minded Michelin Pilot HX MXM4 P235/45R18 all-season tires. All TSX wheels have a clear-coat aluminum finish designed to compliment the exterior color choices.
The new TSX V-6 model uses special rear brake pads that deliver enhanced stopping power. In addition, the V-6 model uses a larger brake master cylinder, a revised pedal ratio and a new brake booster to deliver a more performance minded braking feel.
All TSX models make use of a chassis that includes a closed-channel cross-braced roof structure and inside frame rails. Along with a stronger rear bulkhead, the closed-channel cross-braced roof structure yields a more rigid and vibration-resistant structure. The first use of inside frame rails for any Acura model help tailor the aerodynamics underneath the car for improved fuel economy, lower emissions and reduced noise. In addition, new A-, B- and C-pillar separators improve the TSX's quietness over rough roads and at high speed. The TSX V-6 model features expanded use of Acura's Electronic Control Mount system for the engine and transmission that delivers more control over drivetrain generated NVH.
With the second-generation TSX body, Acura designers sought to retain the crisp, dynamic design of the original TSX and enhance it by widening the body overall and adding more muscular cues to create a keen-edged sports sedan. Externally, the TSX V-6 looks similar to the four-cylinder model with the exception of a V-6 badge on the trunk and a slightly revised front fascia with functional side openings for improved radiator cooling.

Exterior/Interior
Functionality and refinement converge with luxury and style in the interior of the TSX. Featuring a blend of sweeping, contemporary shapes, a high level of standard comfort and convenience features, widespread use of premium materials and an available Technology Package, this 5-passenger sports sedan offers the upscale modern interior that customers have come to expect from Acura.
For 2010, all TSX models receive an easier-to-read navigation screen (when equipped with the Technology Package) and an improved look of telephone number text displayed on the Multi Information Display (MID). The TSX V-6 receives model specific interior upgrades including a one-touch ignition key starter system and an updated tachometer face with a unique rpm redline range that corresponds to the operating parameters of the new 3.5L V-6 engine.
Also part of the TSX V-6 package is a new Active Sound Control system that is much advanced over Acura's previous Active Noise Cancellation™** (ANC) system. Whereas ANC dealt with the elimination of low sound pressure entering the cabin, the new Active Sound Control system has a much broader range including the elimination of unwanted high frequency noise.
Typical of Acura, the 2010 TSX offers an exceptional level of standard equipment including a leather appointed interior, power front seats, power moonroof, automatic climate control, a folding key with remote entry, automatic headlight activation, a premium 7-speaker sound system with CD, AM/FM tuner, XM® Radio, Bluetooth® HandsFreeLink® along with USB audio interface and AUX jack connectivity.
An available Technology Package delivers leading-edge electronics that make driving more efficient and enjoyable. The navigation system features AcuraLink Real-Time Traffic™ covering 77 major metropolitan markets along with Traffic Rerouting™ and dynamic route guidance to help navigate around traffic slow-downs. In addition, a rear view camera helps the TSX driver more carefully navigate when in tight locations.
Included in the Technology Package is a premium sound system tuned by 6-time Grammy® award winning sound engineer Elliot Scheiner. This 10-speaker Acura/ELS™ Premium Surround Sound System with DVD-Audio (with 500-times higher resolution than traditional CD) includes a new Note function for XM® Radio that makes it easy to identify songs to recall at a later date. With push of a button, the Note function can capture 10 seconds of up to 30 songs, along with noting text indicating song title, artist name and XM® channel.

Safety

The Acura TSX leads the way in safety with its Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure. ACE™ improves the dispersal of frontal crash energy through the use of load-bearing frame structures that better match the TSX with other vehicles of different sizes and with different bumper heights. Simply put, ACE™ helps maximize the effectiveness of the TSX's front crumple zones, better dispersing crash forces before they reach the passenger compartment.
For all TSX models, a broad range of passive safety features contribute to occupant safety, including six airbags (dual-stage, dual-threshold front airbags, dual-chamber front seat side airbags and side curtain airbags for outboard seating positions). Head restraints are provided for all seating positions and the front seats employ an active headrest restraint system. Three-point seatbelts are provided for all seating positions along with seatbelt load limiters with an integrated automatic tensioning system for the driver and front passenger seat belts.
Exterior features designed to help improve safety include daytime running lights (DRL), pedestrian-injury mitigation features such as a deformable hood, hood hinges and windshield-wiper pivots, and a 5-mph front bumper and 2.5-mph rear bumper. The 2010 Acura TSX achieves the highest ratings in both government (NHTSA)** and independent (IIHS) crash testing - including garnering IIHS's TOP SAFETY PICK.
The 2010 Acura TSX is covered by a comprehensive 4-year/50,000 mile bumper-to-bumper limited warranty and a 6-year/70,000 mile powertrain limited warranty. Powertrain
For 2010 the MDX receives a new 3.7-liter VTEC® V-6. The engine continues Acura's longstanding mission to provide V-8 level horsepower and torque while retaining the size and fuel efficiency of a V-6. Based on the previous MDX's powerplant, the newly refined 3.7L V-6 develops 300 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque to provide immediate throttle response, outstanding low- and mid-range torque and excellent high-rpm power. To widen the powerband while simultaneously improving fuel efficiency, the latest 3.7-liter engine has the patented Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control (VTEC®) system applied to the intake valves, revised high-lift camshaft specs during VTEC® operation, a computer controlled dual-stage induction system and an electronic Drive-by-Wire™ throttle system.

Internally, the new 3.7L V-6 makes use of special heavy-duty components including a more rigid cylinder block, high-strength crankshaft, heavy-duty connecting rods, high compression-ratio pistons, cylinder heads with improved cooling, new intake valve springs, a new EGR system, unique long-reach spark plugs, a larger throttle body and other features.
EPA estimated city/highway fuel mileage of 16/21 mpg* (an improvement of 1 mpg city and 1 mpg highway over the 2009 model) and a large 21-gallon fuel capacity mean the MDX is perfect for long drives. Like all 2010 Acura vehicles, the MDX complies with the latest EPA TIER 2 - BIN 5 and CARB LEV II ULEV emissions standards.
The 3.7L V-6 is coupled with a brand-new Sequential SportShift 6-speed automatic transmission along with a new multi-clutch torque converter. With comparatively "short" gearing in the first five forward gears, acceleration is enhanced- while fuel efficiency and quiet cruising are optimized with a relaxed Sixth gear ratio. The transmission offers two automatic shift modes, or can be operated manually via racing-inspired steering wheel paddle shifters. Grade Logic Control, Shift Hold Control, Cornering G Shift Control and Hill Start Assist make the new 6-speed the most advanced automatic transmission ever offered by Acura. To support the MDX's 5,000 pound towing capacity, a special front-mount transmission fluid cooler is employed.
The MDX puts power to the ground through Acura's acclaimed Super Handling All-Wheel Drive™ (SH-AWD®) system, an innovative full-time all-wheel-drive system that uses torque vectoring to actively distribute the optimum amount of power not only between the front and rear axles, but also between the left and right rear wheels. With torque vectoring (and by selectively overdriving the outside rear wheel while cornering) the yaw moment of the MDX can be controlled throughout a turn as the SH-AWD® system reduces understeer to greatly enhance handling precision and ultimate cornering ability. Working in conjunction with the MDX's standard Vehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA®) with traction control, SH-AWD® provides enhanced power delivery and driver control whether it be on-road or off-road, in dry, rain, snow or ice.
When towing, special Trailer Stability Assist algorithms built into the VSA® logic help stabilize the vehicle after sensing oscillations of the vehicle or trailer. The MDX's SH-AWD® system is further enhanced with hill logic that automatically adjusts the front/rear torque distribution based on the incline of the hill grades.
Chassis

With an emphasis on top-level handling performance, MDX engineers targeted the world-class dynamics and driving feel of the top European SUV competitors. This led to the development of a long wheelbase platform and a sophisticated suspension system tuned at Germany's famed Nürburgring race circuit.

The MDX's 4-wheel fully-independent suspension makes use of MacPherson struts in front teamed with a multi-link rear suspension design that is mounted to a rigid unit body structure with isolated subframes. The front suspension also uses unique hydro-compliance bushings that provide superior ride isolation and chassis vibration control. The rear suspension features aluminum-alloy uprights to reduce unsprung weight for improved response, while special trailing-arm mounting points reduce body squat during acceleration. For 2010, the MDX uses stiffer rear trailing arm mounts, incorporates numerous body rigidity improvements and delivers reduced overall NVH.

As part of the available Advance Package, the Active Damper System gives the 2010 MDX an elevated level of handling precision designed to satisfy the most discriminating drivers- all while maintaining a smooth ride. The MDX's Active Damper System features a new algorithm which provides two driver-selectable settings-Comfort and Sport-that tailor the suspension dampers for a more comfortable or more sporting ride. For 2010, the Active Dampers have been re-tuned for provide a more refined ride for Comfort mode and a more natural feeling Sport mode.

Using "active" Magneto-Rheological fluid dampers and predictive computer algorithms, the MDX's Active Damper System can respond in as little as five milliseconds (0.005 sec.) to individually adjust the damping force of the shock absorbers ahead of actual body movements to provide improved transient handling, road isolation and body control.

The Comfort mode allows for a more relaxed driving experience by prioritizing road isolation and reduced passenger fatigue caused by road inputs, while the Sport mode prioritizes handling response and vehicle body control to allow for spirited driving with high levels of precision and vehicle composure.

For 2010, new (lighter) 18-inch diameter 5-spoke aluminum-alloy wheels are standard with 19-inch diameter 7-spoke aluminum-alloy wheels available as part of the Advance Package.

For excellent stopping power and control, the MDX employs large 13.0-inch diameter ventilated front brake rotors and 13.2-inch solid rear brake rotors along with anti-lock brakes (ABS) with Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist.
Interior
For 2010, new attention to detail and added luxury further distinguish the MDX interior. Expanded use of Milano premium leather to the available Technology Package, improved look and feel of interior trim materials, relocated front seat headrests for improved comfort, more detailed leather stitching (such as the Lancia-style stitching on the steering wheel and shift knob), thicker steering wheel grip, increased use of LED interior lighting and revised cockpit controls make it clear that the MDX is focused on the driver- but not at the expense of passenger comfort.

The power driver seat adjusts 10 ways for optimum comfort, and the front passenger seat is 8-way power adjustable. The second-row outboard seats mirror the style and lateral support of the front seats, giving the interior a unique feel that highlights the MDX's blend of sport and utility. Convenience and cargo features abound, including under-floor storage in the rear cargo area and a standard power-operated rear tailgate. There are multiple configurations of the MDX's three rows of seating thus enabling a maximum useable cargo volume of 83.5 cubic feet. Additionally, a load flat floor is available when the second and third row seats are folded down.

The MDX offers a formidable list of standard equipment including items such as a leather trimmed interior, power moonroof, power windows, leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel, a Multi-Information Display (MID) that allows access to multiple electronic functions, a tri-zone climate control system with humidity control and Bluetooth® HandsFreeLink® wireless telephone interface. Safety
In keeping with Acura's "Safety Through Innovation" initiative, the 2010 MDX provides state-of-the-art safety for its passengers, including the application of Acura's Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure.
ACE™ employs a network of front frame structures that work to absorb and more evenly distributes collision forces throughout the vehicle and also helps maintain the integrity of the passenger cabin in the event of a severe frontal collision. A special frame member located below the MDX's front bumper is designed to engage the front bumper of a lower vehicle, allowing the bumper systems of both vehicles to attenuate crash energy more efficiently.
Numerous standard "active safety" features that help the MDX driver reduce the risk of collision include Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) along with an anti-lock braking system (ABS) with Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist. An additional active safety feature included in the available Advance Package is the Collision Mitigating Braking System™ (CMBS™) which helps the driver reduce the likelihood of a collision by alerting the driver to potential collision situations and activating the brakes if the system determines a collision likely is unavoidable. VSA® has been retuned for 2010 to deliver a 10-percent improvement in performance during hard acceleration on slippery surfaces.
Inside the handsomely appointed MDX interior, occupants will find advanced safety features including the latest generation of dual-stage, multiple-threshold airbags for the driver and front passenger.
There are also knee bolsters, front seatbelts with an automatic tensioning system with integrated load limiters, side airbags for the driver and front passenger along with side curtain airbags (with a rollover sensor) for all outboard occupants. Active front head restraints help reduce the likelihood of neck injury for front seat passengers and LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren) mounting systems in the second row seating allow quick and secure installation of child seats.
The 2010 MDX is engineered to surpass the existing FMVSS 216 government roof crush test standard of 1.5 times the curb weight of the vehicle. However, the MDX is so well engineered that it is anticipated to already meet the upcoming roof crush standard of 3.0 times curb weight. Efficient use of high-strength steel creates a body structure with the stiffness to allow such results while still permitting the use a large glass moonroof.
Developed by Acura designers and engineers in California and Ohio, and tested in the company's advanced safety laboratories in Raymond, Ohio, the MDX is assembled in Alliston, Ontario, Canada.
Like all 2009 Acura models, the 2010 MDX is covered by a comprehensive 4-year/50,000 mile bumper-to-bumper limited warranty and a 6-year/70,000 powertrain limited warranty. Additional ownership benefits include Acura Total Luxury Care® (TLC®), which provides free 24-hour roadside assistance, concierge service and trip routing.

Acura Vehicles That Qualify for "Cash for Clunkers"

Following the announcement that President Obama signed the newly enacted Consumer Assistance to Recycle and Save (CARS) program, three Acura luxury vehicle models are expected to qualify for government credit vouchers under the stimulus program. The CARS program, also known as "Cash for Clunkers," is a government subsidy that encourages drivers to purchase a new, more fuel-efficient vehicle to replace an older, less fuel-efficient vehicle.

Under the CARS program, government vouchers will be issued to participating dealers for $3,500 or $4,500 (the amount depends on the difference in fuel economy between the older vehicle replaced versus the new model purchased) for new vehicles purchased by qualifying customers. Acura vehicles likely to qualify for government vouchers are the 2009-2010 TSX four-cylinder sports sedan, the turbocharged RDX crossover SUV, and certain models of the 2010 MDX luxury sport utility vehicle that will become available later this year.

My Review For 2009 Acura TSX

This review is for the 2009 Acura TSX from a 2005 Acura TSX owner.

I got a chance to borrow a 2009 Acura TSX as a loaner when I brought in my 2005 Acura TSX in for my 30K service.

Although I like the fact that the car is a little bigger and wider, I can't say that I like the new styling all that much. I'm still turned off by the new "Power Plenum" grill as it does not look luxurious at all. To me a car's grill should be like a manufacturer's signature. BMW does this concept very will.

Continuing with exterior appearance, I also like the location of the fog lights compared to the previous generation refreshed model's (2006-2008) location. The current generation's rim is comparable to the previous generation's model before the refresh (2004-2005), which are better looking than the refreshed (2006-2008) version. The rear styling of the car looks pretty good. Everyone I talked to likes the back, at least so much more than the front.

The interior of the car is nice, the leather seats are pretty soft and comfortable. However, some of the interior pieces feel too plastic, and the center console is too button happy. In my opinion, a simpler console is more elegant. I thought that Acura would have added rear passenger air vents in this generation's version already, but I guess not.

The car I borrowed, had the Technology Package as it included the navigation and backup camera. I have to admit, the Tech Pack made me even more jealous that I didn't get the navi in my 2005 TSX.

Driving the car... The 2009 Acura TSX feels a lot bigger than the previous generation, but it also seems "peepier." The engine's beefiness is adequent, but I can understand why Acura is releasing a V6 version soon. The car however does not feel nimble like the pervious generation. The automatic transmission comes with paddle shifters instead of the sequential sport shift like in the previous generation. I can't say that paddle shifters is that much more fun than the sport shift, I think it's all preference when it comes down to this, and I rather have the sport shift. It is however cooler to tell someone your car has paddle shifters.

So what does this all mean? At the end day, it's nice to drive around a 2009 Acura TSX, but I'm much happier with my clean exterior looking, simple center console, sequential sport shift, and nimble feeling 2005 Acura TSX. To quote edmunds.com's review: "The last one was better."

My Fixed 2005 Acura TSX

I finally got my car back from Penske Auto Collision. They took 3 weeks instead of their estimated time of 2 weeks! So for 3 weeks I was driving around in a rental Chevy Cobalt. Penske said they found some "supplemental" work that they had the insurance approve. Maybe worth noting, but my co-worker (who recommended the place) said that Penske did the same thing to him. The repair ended up totaling $3305.32, the initial insurance appraisal Penske had to work with was $1625.30, I only had to pay my $500 deductible.

When I went to pick up my car, there was some initial disappointment. I inspected my car and found some paint missing from the rocker panel. I thought to myself, "I don't think this panel was affected by the accident," but after checking the before pictures, I guess there were some scratches on that panel too. Either way, I expressed my dissatisfaction of the questioned area. My advisor, John, told me they didn't do anything the insurance didn't approve. I thought to myself, "this makes no sense, my insurance gave you extra money and extra time to blend and repaint my front door which was totally not affected by the accident but won't you let you paint a part near the area of the accident?"

So I continued to express my disapproval. I said, "Look, I'm not asking you to repaint the whole panel, but it just seems like this part of the panel is missing some paint." John agreed, so he suggested that he take the car "back" for 5 minutes and get some paint to touch-up that area.

After my car returned from disappearing for about 10 minutes, I was a lot more satisfied. I'm not saying, I'm 100% happy, but about 98%. I don't think they could make me 100% satisfied because I actually had to tell them to take it back and they took 3 weeks!

My review for Penske Auto Collision:

Repair cost: D (They were the most expensive. I would not have taken my car there if I were paying out of my pocket.)

Repair time: D (They estimated 2 weeks, which was the longest of all 3 initial estimates, but instead took 3 weeks!)

Repair quality: B+ (Maybe I'm just anal, but I notice when there's missing paint on my car.)

Willing to work with you: A (They said if I experience any issues or anything give them a call, haven't had to do it yet, but they did take it back and touch up the paint when I expressed my dissatisfaction.)

Professionalism: A (I got a status report from them basically every Friday.)

Would I recommend them? Yes, but if money and time is an issue then take it somewhere else.

[POLL - Results] The 2010 Acura TSX V6 Sedan Should Have:

According to the people who visit this site, the majority of them believe that the 2010 V6 Acura TSX should offer a manual transmission. The manual transmission selection was almost tied with people who think that the V6 TSX sedan should have been a coupe instead. This makes sense as Acura currently does not offer any coupes in their lineup since they got rid of the Acura RSX and the Acura NSX was discontinued before that. These two selections made up more than half (52%) of the total votes.
